Appellate judge’s campaign signs raise questions of partisan bias - WFMJ
Judge Mark Hanni sits on the 7th District Court of Appeals, and he is running for another seat on the same court — because by the end of his current term, he will be too old to run for his same seat again.
As he campaigns across the 7th district, which includes Mahoning and Columbiana Counties, signs have popped up bearing his name and the words, “Jesus Is My Savior. Trump Is My President.” Hanni has also described himself through his campaign posts and materials as “pro-Trump” and a “Trump Republican.”
The Ohio Code of Judicial Conduct Section 4.1 regulates the political and campaign activity of judges, as well as candidates for the court. The code says endorsements of other political candidates (including family members) are prohibited, though according to Jonathan Entin, a law professor at Case Western Reserve University, that ends when the election does.
