José A. Cabranes, U.S. Circuit Judge for the Second Circuit, Portrait Dedication [71:30-73:03]
The same is true of ceremonies like this in which the speakers are most certainly not under oath. Dr. Johnson has his uses, but a more modest authority gives us the more pertinent insight. I refer to the Hall of Fame catcher, Yogi Berra. On the occasion of a tribute early in his major league career in his hometown of St. Louis, which is Kate's hometown as well, Yogi began as I do today with this thought. I want to thank everyone who made this day necessary. This is my turn for thanks, if not now, when. For making this event possible, my thanks go first of all to Chief Judge Thompson and to my other friends and colleagues on the Federal bench of Connecticut and of course to our host Robert Post, the great dean of this great law school, whose generous hospitality we enjoyed today. And thanks also to one of Dean Thompson's associate deans, Mike Thompson, who quietly and effectively keeps the engines of this complicated law school running. I owe special thanks today as always to my law clerks over a span of 32 years who occupy the left wing of this space. Especially some who will remain unidentifiable.
