Justice Consuelo Marie Callahan, Circuit Judge, United States Courts of Appeal [90:51-93:42]

difficult for me than working hard and solving problems so we're pretty lucky I think in that sense in terms of our jobs present us an opportunity to accomplish tangible things and positively make a difference you have accomplished much and you've also mentioned you raised your children how many children do you have well I actually only birthed one and I planned only but I raised a stepdaughter too so I raised two as sort of as life circumstances come come about and I considered them both with my own but that you know it but I didn't have I never had two babies at one time as far as that goes but it's it's a challenge it's difficult and um a lot of people frequently say well how do you do it all and how do you do it all you don't and and I didn't and there are I set priorities at different times and the priorities sometimes when your children are struggling you have to you know you have to juggle things in terms of your work to make sure that you meet whatever their needs are but by the same token I think that people that are very engaged in their careers and spend a lot of time doing it do spend less time with their children and so it really depends on their entire family dynamics the children that they have and each person has to make that decision for him or herself and I probably honestly didn't you know because I didn't ever stay home I always worked and I did go to all the games I did all of that stuff and I think you know I say jokingly my kids aren't in prison and they speak to me so all as well and they're good people but but did I but comparative to someone that wanted to be home with their babies for five years before they went to school I didn't do that did did I miss something probably so did you know would I balance it differently maybe not because that's my personality but people need to understand that the tough decisions in life aren't all good they're not all bad you you make them as they present themselves much like we do in in our work and it's not it can't be a hundred you you can't divide a hundred percent between two things and each side have a hundred percent absolutely now when and why did you leave the court of appeal well it really was interestingly I don't think it well I left to go to the Ninth Circuit which is the obviously the federal court of appeals as opposed to the court of appeal but I wasn't I didn't put in for that position so it wasn't something to be honest my goal

{# E23 (Nick, ruling section 1 answer 10): quoting a bill or a court opinion works the way quoting a news article works. Select a passage above and the same panel opens: the passage goes to the official you choose, with this document's own address as its source and its own type. #}
