Talkin' Politics | June 12, 2023: "I'm So Indicted..." Missouri GOP model being used by Congressional GOP; Oklahoma paying for religious school; Biden celebrates Pride; Paxton Impeached; #mosen race adds Wesley Bell; Trump Indicted
This week on the Heartland Pod for Monday, June 12, 2023, Missouri's GOP being copied at the national level. Oklahoma is paying for religious education directly. The Biden administration celebrates pride. Ken Paxton's getting impeached. Wesley Bell joins Lucas Coons in the primary to go after Josh Hawley. And Donald Trump, if you haven't heard, has been indicted. Lots to do, so let's go. Welcome back to the Heartland Pod. My name is Adam Summer, and I am your host. This is the regular Monday show, our talk and politics show with myself. And my co-host Rachel Parker and Sean Diller, who will both join us in just a moment, together we bring big topics in the week with a special focus on the Heartland as we bring our middle out approach to politics and work to change the conversation. Such all of our shows, five days a week, including Dirt Road Democrat hosted by Jess Piper on Thursdays, and our weekly round-up show The Fly Overview with Kevin Smith every Friday for a 15-minute weekly catch-up. We always, always, always want to say thank you to the folks who have signed up over there. It is a massive help. It's what makes it possible for us to do the amount of the shows that you're hearing because there is an expense to create all of this and we launched it all from the ground up. Nobody's made an actual dime off of this stuff. It's all been out of pocket costs to make it all work. When you sign up over there at our Patreon, what you're doing is you're making it so that A, we know that people that want this message, which is important, but B, you make it so that we can start to think about how to make the message grow. How do we make it bigger? Because that is how we invest back into what we're doing so that we can have all of the different shows and different channels and things like that. Part of that is moving Dirt Road Democrat onto its own solo channel, so you'll be hearing more about that. It's going to happen in July. It'll still be available now where you're originally finding it on this feed with these shows. But we're going to move it over to its own channel and talk with Jess about how she wants things to look on the other side as far as how many shows a week, basically how much are you going to hear from Jess. It's a good problem to have, which is we have a lot of interest. We have a lot of folks who want to talk. The election season is coming up and a lot of folks are listening and that's the bottom line. If you're listening to this, just know that you're standing in a very large group right now. It's a group that is not only large, but it's growing and it's growing at a good rate. We know that you are the reason for that. Keep spreading the word. Share the show with folks, put it into groups that you're in, texted to a friend, even if it's just one episode that you really like, just so they at least check it out and know it's there. Maybe it's their thing, maybe it's not, but we hope that we can continue to reach more folks as we get into 2024 and really, we've got a serious community here that's helping move the needle and truly helping to change the conversation on politics. At the very least at this point in the state of Missouri, if not in a bigger way, so thank you for all of your help and I'm going to have an opening statement for you and then we're going to get into the rest of the show, the talk on politics with Rachel, Sean and myself. She is the core. On June 8, 2023, former President Donald Trump was indicted on multiple counts, including some under the Espionage Act. By now, you certainly know that. In the last few days, we have seen a fast and furious political response from Trump supporters and Biden detractors who are trying their hardest to change the story and reality of the Trump indictment into a political opinion issue because they know, full well, that the real depth of this issue isn't political, it is legal. This is what the rule of law looks like. The American system, imperfect as all human creations are, functions best only when its application is truly blind. We all know the image of Lady Justice holding the scale she wears a blindfold for a reason. Not because justice is truly blind to reality, but because justice, real justice at its core, isn't about who is in the room, what their job or elected position was or is or what their income is. Real justice is about accountability. Accountability is the core of the rule of law and the rule of law is the core of the American constitutional system. Mark Twain once wrote, the administration of law can never go lax where every individual sees to it that it grows not lax in his own case or in cases which fall under his eye. Now, he was talking about accountability of the system itself, but that applies in both directions. It can't be lax in one case in favor of another. We're going to hear over and over again this argument that what happened with Hillary Clinton is the same thing that happened with Donald Trump and she wasn't prosecuted, but that is political fodder because the facts of the situations are remarkably different. Anybody who takes time to look at the actual facts can see that difference very clearly and very plainly, and that's why this case is so important from an accountability standpoint, because it is past a question of politics. It is a question of fact applied to the law. Accountability can be messy, accountability can test patients, but real accountability under the law requires a foundation built on facts, on evidence, and on exhaustive investigation. Jack Smith's work, the resulting indictment of a former president for the first time in the United States history, is a serious move of accountability, one of a kind, first in history, in a world based on the rule of law, an necessity not for political purposes, but to secure the very core of the rule of law and of the American constitutional system. It has been and continues to be about accountability. Now here's talking politics. Talking politics. All right, we hear for talking politics, and right now it's just me and it's Rachel. Rachel Parker is here. It's Adam Summer. Sean Diller will join us very soon. I had one of those weeks where it was just kind of like fast and furious go-go-go and had a conference this week, a continuing legal education conference to go to, I got to play a little golf. When this comes out, I'll be on my way. Most of you who listen to this in the first half of the day, I'll be on my way to St. Lewis to play golf again. I'm playing in a charity golf tournament for Wret Syndrome Foundation, the International Wret Syndrome Foundation paired with the WashU Wret Syndrome clinic that they have there. That's where our daughter Clara goes, and so it raises funds for that at the Lake of the Woods. You can just have a link in the show notes if you want to kick some dollars in. It's a great program and a great cause and it helps families who get the diagnosis of Wret Syndrome, which is a pretty major diagnosis to receive and it gives them a place to go and get all of the specialists that you have to see in one trip and anybody who's ever had to deal with that kind of stuff knows that that is massive to be able to do that. I have had to deal with that kind of shit. To be able to do a half a day where you see every doctor, you just go, boom, boom, boom. And there's an interest practitioner that has already set up the schedule for you and she and she ushers you through the process. Like Jesus and shit is the best it really is. It really is incredible. Yeah. And they're exceptional. It's just really good. It's a really good thing. It's the best way to deal with an unthinkably difficult situation. Exactly. Exactly. That link will be there if folks want to contribute to that and there's funding for families who can't afford to necessarily stay in town. There's funding for the clinic itself. There's all kinds of good stuff and it does a lot of good. So we will put that link in there and Amanda works with the charity. My wife Amanda works with the charity some and helps plan events as well. So yeah, how about you Rachel? How's the weekend? You know, and what you're sipping on, I've got actually I went coffee. I've got a iced coffee situation going here. It's unusual for you to do that that much caffeine at this time of day. It is unusual. It means that you have to do more than usual after now or just because you're so shattered that that's the only way this can happen. My battery is pretty drained from the conference and that and then just generally speaking, you know, Jane is now in full blown to your old mode. And so, you know, the scene in Jurassic Park when the raptor opens the door. Yeah, it's kind of like it's that now. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, sure. A few weeks ago it was like the first time I noticed her like I could hear her banging on the door and then see the little jiggle jiggle jiggle. She could jiggle jiggle jiggle the door handle and it's like, yeah, we're this is about to change. So. Yeah. She would totally be like a fire starter. She would totally be like, how did she even find matches and she's like, I don't know, I found some. But she wakes up at an 11. So it's. Yeah. Jane, Adam is going to see all if you, most of you have not seen her. She is just head first all the time, just head first, head first. So fun. She like we were all hanging out together. It's when we went to that abortion. Yeah, the abortion protest. And we took separate cars and Jane got out with Amanda and you know, she was like on the sidewalk. Well, I think Amanda was going to clear out of the car and a man and Jane saw Elliot, my husband. Yeah. And she just like. And then just like. Like made like a dragon, the little kid like dragon face and I was like. Wow, this girl's going to love a crowd, man. Just like daddy. Just like that. She's pure performance. Yeah. Oh my god. Yeah, that's great. Yeah, that's terrifying. And she's supposed to do it. So good luck with that. I had like. I had a. So I keep talking about this, you know, this building run out. And say it's like you almost use the word relaxing. Yeah, I mean, it's been it like I've been going through kind of peaks and valleys of like. Why am I still so why am I still so stressed? I think people. Who have been through mountains of stress. When you're when it's just over like I was selling Elliot today because I had a miserable day yesterday. I was like just brimming with anxiety. I was like, what the hell's going on? There's nothing I can really point to. Except the kind of. I don't know. Trump being back in the news. We're going to talk about that later. Obviously, but like him being back in the news so much is very like 2017ish. Right. And it's just kind of giving me. I don't know. It was just a lot just a lot going on in the body in the mind. Yeah. And I kind of feel like I did right after Elliot got his transplant. That's what I feel like right now. I feel like I've just crossed. I'm not equivocating. Like a deep and trepidatious breath. But like you can feel a release. But you also know you should hold on a little bit to this. You just don't know what to do. You're just like, I don't. There's no handbook to tell you how to process what just happened to you. And so you just have to kind of. So the first few day, it's not. I think that we have this image in our minds that when you overcome something difficult or you survive something or you get to think that there's going to be this like. The sun's going to break through the clouds and you're going to sing like a happy day or whatever. And it just doesn't work that way. And every time you go through a new experience that's challenging and difficult in a way that is unique to you. That even though you know that that's true, like even though you understand that process that I just explained. Right. While you're in it, it doesn't make any sense. It's disorienting. And there's this cognitive dissonance going on where in front of you, the thing is better. But your mind is still like foggy and doesn't know what to do with itself yet. And so I'm kind of in that. So today I woke up. And I was like, I felt very still very like I'm talking about like when you're foggy and like you can't read a book. Right. And it's hard to kind of you get forgetful. Like there's the water bottle my my telltale green water bottle is like missing out of no idea where it is. Things like that. So it's my. Yeah, but like it's not because I forgetful. It's because I'm dissociating a little bit dissociative like just a little bit. Um, so anyway, so like about an hour ago, I kind of landed back in my body in a way that I haven't been able to do in probably like six months. And I was like, oh my God, you guys Trump got indicted. We want to lawsuit. Like, you know what I mean? Like the choice of it. So I had a couple beers. And that is how the week went. The week was like very up and down like that. Like, oh, that was kind of crazy. And a lot went on as it always does. I'm my heart goes out to the victims of the flooding in Ukraine. That looks uh, treacherous and terrible. And I'm so sorry that we have monsters in the world that would do that to human beings on purpose. It's hard enough when floods hurt people because of weather. When it was intentional, it is um, unthinkable. And I'm not one of those people that says like, well, the United States has done that. Yes, we have. We've done horrible things to people. I was against the Iraq war. Uh, it was against the Afghan Afghanistan invasion. All those things. I'm, uh, I believe firmly that you should not use force less necessary. I'm blowing up a damn and displacing. Yeah. Tens, if not hundreds of thousands of people. Is a fucking war crime and flood and just like just to be clear during this time of like. Is Putin the fuck Vladimir Putin and fuck anybody? Honestly, like fuck anybody that doesn't understand that like. We have to be a force in the world to protect countries that are being victimized by utter bullies like that. And also fuck that fucking PGA merger. And I'm having a drink and we're going to have fun and welcome to talking politics everybody. Uh, welcome. Welcome to to Rachel is one of the people, one of the few people I know who as she gets more positive. She also gets more blue. Uh, but like in an engineering way. Yeah, no, it's like it's like the, it's like that's. It's like the joy of it. It's like it's like if I could wrap. That's what I would sound like. Right. Right. This is my love language, all. Yeah. Just my love. And I'll throw in another, another worth noting thing. Uh, Alex Soros taking over for George Soros. Alex is, uh, his son is 37 year old. Son who describes himself as center left. Um, but is very clear on Mike abortion rights and, you know, like the, the, the obvious stuff. And so, you know, we don't, we don't have any, uh, I'm sure there, I'm sure by now we've reached the level where we've got some, uh, some trackers on this show and some aggregator types on the right who are pulling our stuff. So sorry to disappoint you. We do not have, uh, Soros funding. But, uh, Alex Soros, it's an adamant, heartland party. Yeah. Yeah. I will give you, uh, Alex, if you want to call, I will definitely give you my Venmo. Yeah. Um, cause I'm, I'm, I'm tribe. I'm, um, yeah. Yeah. I'm, I'm a Jew. So I, any day now, I'm waiting for the moment where I can, um, you know, uh, just, just execute control over, uh, what, what is it now telecommunications? I don't know what it is. We're supposed to be in control of. That's your breath. Right as a member. Totally. No, you get a, you get a, you get like a, a plaque and a special set of keys. Uh, it's cool. It's, you got all this kind of stuff. It's, it's nifty. Um, yeah. And a personal letter from Mr. Soros himself saying, welcome. You will know when the time comes. Stay ready. That's what it is. Yeah. Yeah. Totally. Uh, let's jump into, uh, the topic we are going to get to Trump. Uh, but, uh, there's other stuff going on. So we're going to do that stuff first. And here we go. Three or four thoughts. Hi, the true or false. Uh, the national GOP house caucus is about to go full blown Missouri GOP dysfunction. Uh, for our non Missouri folks, there was, uh, this conservative caucus, uh, that allegedly disbanded after 2022 session. And yet mysteriously the same people kept, uh, a lot of stuff from ever possibly had a lot of bad stuff that didn't happen, which was not necessarily. It's like the, it's like the band that says they're breaking up and they're like, well, we had stuff in the vault. So we thought we've just put it out as like a best of or whatever. Exactly. Uh, but, uh, so, so the national GOP house caucus is doing the same kind of thing, just this insane function or dysfunction. Uh, and so the true, the real true or false is McCarthy is going to lose the seat. That's the true or false question. So do you mean that he's going to lose his seat? Like that he's going to speak here. Oh, then he'll get, I don't know like it. So I'm going to say false. I think, I think that they are, he's more useful to the lunatics on the right where he is. Yeah. Because, uh, the lunatics always hang their hat on whoever is in charge of the House of Representatives. Um, this is like a really great Sean question. But I'd be really, because Bainer, John Bainer, um, who was the last Republican speaker of the House before Mr. McCarthy, he had a hell of a time. I mean, he basically checked out. Yeah. Just like, yeah. Yeah. So, uh, but I think that McCarthy certainly compromised more, but I think that they're enjoying the, so they being the, you know, you're, and Marjorie Taylor green types in your, um, Ken. I just call him Ken. Like, that gets to me. Let's look a fucking shitty Ken doll that they were like, don't put that one out. It's teeth are too big. But I'm glad that it's, it's like a weird ventriloquist dummy or something with like all the teeth capped in the air. He's the Ken doll that you buy at the Dollar General. Totally. No, he is. Yeah. Anyway, Stan. He's like, I think that if they have a, quote unquote, rhino, that they can sort of deflect against, it'll probably help them fundraise. Um, I think that he gave up too much to, I were, again, if I were Kevin McCarthy, which I am not, um, I would have said after the third vote or something. I would have been like, okay. Fuck it. Right. I lost somebody else. Yeah. Somebody else can do it. I don't want this job anymore. You guys are terrible. And then I would have watched them tear the party apart. And then I would have let some other moderate, sort of like, I mean, I'm not calling Kevin McCarthy a moderate. Um, I think he is deep down. He just is. Certainly his life. General voting record. He's from California. He suggests that he's more of a moderate. He's from California. He's like an Arnold Schwarzenegger conservative. Right. So, but he certainly likes to, you know, he's got a, he's got a role to play in that far right caucus. And, uh, they have him where they want him, which is the threat of, because nothing more powerful than the threat of being removed. And he did, like his work here is kind of done. He doesn't have to, you know, they passed a budget, the government can function. That's not like they're going to be able to pass a bunch of legislation anyway. Well, no, that's their whole point, right? Their whole point is to, is to, is to make a, is to make a ruckus. Um, so that they can play. Well, even if it wasn't the Senate, they, they can't get it through. Right. That's correct. So they can pass all the crazy stuff. Yeah. So they can, they can do all kind of bananas stuff. Um, but I, I do, I do think that we are in a slightly different era than we were when the, how, again, like I don't know how many times Obama vetoed the Affordable Care Act repeals. Yeah. We looked that up at some point. It was, it was less than we thought, but still like a huge. But there, it was because it was because the house, it was because the house passed an ACA repeal. A budget time that didn't make it. Right. They never got to, to a floor vote in the Senate. So I think it only did like once or twice or something. But so I don't think he's, I don't think it's going to be quite that ridiculous. But I think that only be, it's not going to be as ridiculous only because like he's not going to let the rid, the super ridiculous shit come up for a vote, which is catnip to the far right. Because they can just, they can just do their whole like Muppet Show. Right. You know, as much as they want and know that everything they're doing is pointless theater. That's a really good reference for it. The market. Just completely like, you know, like, like two old men in the balcony. Like, that's all it is now. Until, until 2024, right. Because they're all waiting for their moment to stand next to Donald Trump and put their arm around him and hold him up. So he doesn't fall over from the stress that he's going to be under soon. And they're going to be shocked when they talk to him and find out that like he is out of his mind because they just have given him a bunch of like things to like. Just kind of balance him out a little bit because he's going to like never sleep anymore because he's going to be dealing with so many attorneys for so many years. And they're just waiting for Mr. President, Marjorie, you know, Congressman Green is here. So we can stand next to her and put his hand like on her ass while they take the picture together. Right. And she's going to be like, ten grams. You know, they're just, they're just, they're holding their breath for that moment. Right. But I do wish on delivers here to do his whole thing. And I do think that the. It's worth pointing out that. It's don't be surprised by the lack of accomplishments of super majorities because. They eventually will always don't be so shocked that they eat their own. It's it's not. It shouldn't be a surprise by now. When the when the reason for the control is connected to the way the boundaries are drawn. You know, when Jerry mandering creates. The lack of competitive races with the two parties, what you wind up with is people who. They really are rhinos. They are Republican and names only in that they learn how to speak just enough Republican. Right. To get into the job because they know that's the only way to get in. And it's the job that they want to have. They want to get into politics. And so they will compromise certain personal aspects. To get in the door knowing that, you know, there was an episode of wrestling that. Josh Lyman is talking to a friend of his who's gay and he's a Republican and he's a congressman. And he asked him, like, I don't understand how you can be in this party. You know, who hates what you are, right? And he's like, I don't understand why the Democrats don't all join the NRA. They have three million members bring three million in one. Take a vote. Boom over. Like, it's an interesting thought experiment right on that way. I agree with you that I think this is false. I think he's going to stay speaker McCarthy is. And the reason this Washington time story was laying some stuff out. About it. And I liked the. This was from today on Sunday. When we're recording that the. Headline is speaker McCarthy vexed conservative revolt. And the quote that I pulled is as part of that effort. Mr McCarthy has agreed to bring to the floor this week. Legislation to roll back a new rule by the Bureau of alcohol. It's back on firearms and explosives on pistol braces. So look out. Look out, America. The house is moving in a shake in. They're going to. They're going to take up pistol braces and try to make television. Out of pistol braces while Donald Trump is going to be all that's on the television. And nobody's going to pay attention to the pistol braces. Yeah. I. I'll, I'll vamp until Sean joins us. Because I want him to jump into the home McCarthy thing. So, you know, I do think that we're definitely kind of in like these sort of like strange uncharted waters. As far as this strange post Trump Republican party. Is only has has managed to stay in control of something for the past. What year is this? This is 2013. So six years they've had six years of power the post Trump Republican party. And they are kind of feasting on their own stomach lining at this point. Which is never a good sign. And I don't. I don't feel like the response to that from the country is going to be. Oh, let's give them more power. I think had 2022 got a certain way. I'd be like, well, democracy was a fun experiment. Too bad that's over. But right now like. I think. Their biggest problem is going to be they're going to have to provide some kind of cohesive explanations as to like why they're still in bed with someone who's quite literally an indicted. Criminal. Yeah, it's going to they're going to have like watching them split that hair. It kind of like why again like McCarthy should walk away and not be the face of this. I don't. That he's this power hungry that he can't just be like, I'm just going to stand over. I'm going to really blunt this whole thing. I think it's telling that that that that's this week that they're going after the pistol racist thing instead of like this week we're announcing, you know, we're taking up articles of impeachment for debate. Right. Like that would be the all in play there on the Trump stuff. And they're not doing that. They're doing something totally unrelated. It's very much the Republican lane like it's it's like pretty normal Republican stuff to be like we need less regulations on guns. So Sean, we're in the true false. We're talking McCarthy true false is is Kevin McCarthy going to stay speaker or not. What do you got? Yeah. So what's the timeline stay speaker for how long? Well, like in the very foreseeable future, like based on the you know the debt ceiling stuff and like. Because there's been until so last week on I think it was Tuesday. I tweeted that I knew Trump was going to get indicted because they're commute the Republican communication. I'm always watching that stuff. And it switched from Biden fell down. And the debt ceiling vote. Like why they were unhappy to it was like in like a 12-hour period it went boom everything was about the Biden crime family. And it's all Hunter Biden's you know it was back to that stuff. And it was like right across the board uniform. And I was like, Oh, he's getting indicted. Like that because they had that big meeting with the attorneys and all that stuff. So, but then in the background is there's still this simmer of like people are kind of like the pissed off like the right wingers are pretty pissed off with McCarthy. So yeah, what do you think? Yeah, no totally. So, and I did read the the semifore article. I don't know if you guys were talking about that. Okay, cool. So there was a kind of the paragraph that caught my eye was a rule. Sinking a rule is a minor protest compared to a coup attempts. Right. And I would posit some other smart person said this first. I don't remember who it was. I'm Washington Winkers. This is the first step of the coup attempt. This is part of the coup. This is a phase of weakening and ousting the speaker I think. Right. And whoever I was listening to I really do wish I remember I drove across Kansas. So I listened to a lot of political stuff in the last couple days. But when other speakers have been asked it always on the Republican side and always because of this trouble with the right flank in the last you know 10 years or whatever. That has been the first. It's a sign that they can do what they want. And the leadership doesn't have control. And you know, the speaker put himself in this position where five people can challenge a rule or you know sink a rule. And yeah, I think the people who you know 100 and something Republicans voted against the debt ceiling deal. So they're still upset. Like they lost that vote, you know. And so they're furious that I think like 79 Republicans voted in favor of it in the house. Something like that and 16 or 17 in the Senate. Okay. Right. Right. Yeah. And it was, you know, McCarthy did get his majority of the Republican conference to vote for the debt ceiling. But, you know, he has a super slim majority inside the conference. And a lot of people don't want him to be speaker. So, you know, I think. And as we talked about. The minute he got the speaker ship like this was going to be the first test and maybe his last test. But yeah, I think if the true or false is true, he's going to stay speaker. That he's going to lose speaker. Okay. So I think that's true. Yeah. I think his days are numbered and he's going to he's weaker. You know, whoever said the debt ceiling was a win for McCarthy was, you know, not smart. Not a smarty pants. Obviously, I'd ask them to back that assertion up. That was like, like, our slack was very chock full of just like, this isn't incredible. I mean, we did that last week, right? That Biden's on just on a tear right now because like the debt ceiling was so positive for him. Yeah. Anyone who did say that this is a win for the speaker should like be legally required to, you know, follow up and comment on like, do you still think that because that was a stupid thing to say. It was obvious. This is what was going to happen. So Sean says it's the first step in the, so it's, so it's multi-step. So it's the coup, coup, couture. That's what we've got going on on the speakerships. So you think you're saying you're saying you're saying you're saying coup in terms of the right. The right blank pulls the leg of one of their three-legged stool. I'm the walls over and then like they, who do you think would, who do you think they'd want to replace them with? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Sean, that's, that's a good question. It's like. Yeah. They're going to go for it. Who's their guy? I have a guess. I have a guess. And it's you're going to hate it. But I, I have a guess. Is it someone nobody's ever heard of? No. Like Andy Biggs or someone. It's a, it's Missouri zone. Oh, you think he would be in the, in the run. Yeah. Ways and means chair. Ways and means chair. And he's got some seniority now. And he doesn't, he doesn't have any morals. Yeah. Steve Scolies and Jim Jordan are the names in my mind. I don't think Jordan wants it. I think Jordan likes. Yeah. I mean, there's a freedom. Yeah. Having no responsibility. Yeah. Yeah. Also, no power. I said, I said, I thought they were going to leave McCarthy out to kind of like. Take the line. They're on the vine because having him there, he's the perfect kind of backstop for all their craziness. When they can blame him for stuff too. Yeah. Everything they don't get done. They can just blame Kevin. Yeah. And I think that'll really help them all fundraise. So I think that's kind of one metric that they'll look at is like, if I send out, you know, 25,000 emails tomorrow. And I say, unlike the rhinos and the house representatives, I would make sure we can secure a real republicans speaker. Yeah. Like, does that, or even just like, we're going to get rid of this socialist Biden communist pinco, whatever they say agenda next vote for me. Yeah. Like, if it helps their fundraising, I think that McCarthy's not going anywhere. That's what I thought. I said, there's another second time folks are going to say this. But this is the first one I said to Sean. So it doesn't count. We'll, we'll see. Let's move to the piano because we've got a lot to talk about. Yeah. No. Yeah. The yeah, no. This is a pretty classic, quick one. Oklahoma, the state of Oklahoma has given the green light on direct public funding for. Religious charter school. There, it's not even, you know, this isn't even like, you know, a savings account or something you can use. No, it's just funding a religious school period. We're taking your tax dollars and we're giving it to a church stuff. And I just. Yeah. No. It's anathema to everything. I think the first amendment has ever stood for. So. Yeah, there's a reason we haven't done it until now. Like the first public religious school is happening in 2023. I think it's probably unlawful and should be shut down. I would hope. Jesus. Yeah. Doesn't this feel like that's what they, I'm looking to see who it's, it's. I'm looking to see like who put it together. But it looks like it's just a church. Like a church was like we're going to open a school. Yeah, it's a virtual church will open by a church. Yeah. So it's not. It's hard to say like who's. I don't know anything about this church. I would be if you're from Oklahoma and you are. It's a Catholic church. Like it's a pretty good sized Catholic church. Okay. In the article. I mean, I saw that there was a diocese involved. So that usually means that. And so this. Anyway, if you. I was just going to say if anybody knows anybody from Oklahoma, like just make sure that they know the thing come on and talk to us about this. Because I think what this feels like to me. Is a well funded religious organization. That is praying quite literally. This ends up in front of the Supreme Court. Oh, that's 100% right. Like this feels like the whole point of like, well, the whole reason that it that somebody took. An issue to court all the way to the Supreme Court, Missouri about a parking lot or playground. Yeah, for a daycare, right? A religious daycare. And Missouri was not about the fucking the parking lot. It was about like. No, that was cracking the husk on the coconut. Yeah. Yeah. So now there's a fissure that so now there's a precedent. I would say like. Again, like this is this is why we have the show is to talk about things like this. The purpose of this. Is not because the state of Oklahoma. Hairs all that much about. I shouldn't say that. The people who. Sign this are very religious and probably deeply believed that this is what they're supposed to do. Yeah. My feeling is that you should always make sure to remember that this is about the unholy alliance between your federalist society types and your heritage foundation types. Yeah. And they form packs called let's just tear it all down. And if the religious right wingers bring people to the polls in large numbers. Then the heritage foundation types will keep just pumping their billions of dollars into elections to make sure that people who believe that we should live that secularism is evil, the pluralism is evil. And we'll happily take public funds to fund education that includes things like. There's no such thing as evolution. That you can't get pregnant on Sunday, whatever other nonsense. I don't know. I. I've heard all of these things were taught to my friends who went to Catholic school. I didn't go to Catholic school, but I did know that that was something that a friend of mine was taught that. As long as it's Sunday, you can't get pregnant. I will. Not familiar with that. I will note on the positive side of this, the attorney general for the state of Oklahoma whose name couldn't be. It's like if you're writing a sketch and you're trying to name the attorney general for the state of Oklahoma. His name is Gentner Drummond. He's the attorney general of the state of Oklahoma. And he said the approval of any public funded religious school is contrary to Oklahoma law and not in the best interest or taxpayers. He said the opinion that is issued by his predecessor that they're relying on misuses the concept of religious liberty by employing it as a means to justify state funded. And that is what everybody who understands the first amendment and the body of law behind the first amendment and religious freedom and all that stuff. Anybody who actually understands it and is making a good faith argument with 100% agree with what that attorney general who I'm. I haven't even looked. I'm just going to go ahead and take a wild swinging guest that Gentner Drummond. The attorney general of Oklahoma is definitely a Republican. I just, I just looked while you were talking and he is. Yeah. So remember of the Republican party. Yeah. And he's talking like a lawyer, which is a refreshing thing to see from an attorney, a Republican. Kind of on this day and age, especially in Oklahoma. Yeah. That's actually talking like a lawyer. So good for him. We'll see where that goes. We will certainly keep a monitor on it. And let's move on to some better stuff. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Yeah, yeah. I got a couple of them. First one's just a Biden's administration acknowledgement of Pride month that made the rounds became quite a thing Fox News covered the fact that they had the Pride flags, you know, hanging on the White House. There was apparently a complaint for because they had two American flags and the pride flag in the middle and the pride flag was at the same level as those American flags, which, of course, the federal flag regulations would say. That's not allowed Sean, the Eagle Scout. You know what I'm talking about. I'm just trying to think of where the hang Mike Pence gallows fit into like how high can they be, you know, compared to the American flag. There's flags around. And this is why we're doing you two, president. How high. Is that too high? This is why we're doing YouTube now because Sean almost ruined Rachel's entire work setup. That was. That was bad. Yeah, I take. So I take Gabapentin, you guys, which is like most a lot of them. But anyway, so I have an eight o'clock dose that I take. And usually when Sean's talking is when I will pop one in. And usually Sean's kind of slippery. You just don't know like stuff's going to come out of his mouth. It is so hilariously original. Like what just happened now? Well, I had literally cheeks full of water. That is amazing. Yeah, continue. I'm sorry. That's awesome. Yeah, no ruling on that. But there was somebody did, of course, point out that the top of the White House has an American flag on it. So like there's no violation of the flag protocols. But yeah, that's a good question where that one fallen. And then a second one. Solid. Yeah. That's a solid. That's going to go in the legend of the legendary dillarisms. And we are along with like 95% probably more unscripted to like if people aren't aware of that. Yeah, there's there was one moment like two probably coming up on two years ago now where Sean said. We were talking about some lawmaker in Missouri who said something ridiculous. And Sean said, wait a minute. So just so I understand this person is in the same party as the lady who sold. The doctor. Like she got. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. As a COVID cure. And then you said you were done with that. You said, these people are all the same like mechanically separated chicken. And I thought I was going to die anyway. Yeah. So that was like this. This one tops that one. Sorry. Yeah. A little, a little bonus one on the AS Ken Paxon attorney general of Texas. Also Republican attorney general. He's getting asked it. He's he's getting taken out by his own party. And so yeah, that's, that's good stuff. I haven't really followed that. I just thought it was happening. I saw there was a bunch of Republicans that came out for it. It's like pay for play bribery stuff. I mean like it's all like kind of classic. I, I, I must admit to that like. I knew that he was in trouble. Like I knew Paxon was in like deep shit with the party. And I was like, oh, I assume that it has to, what did he, did he like. Did he like, did his mistress get an abortion? Did he pay people off? Like whatever. And no, it's just like he's corrupt. He took money because he's in power. And his own party and the people, like I would love again, like. You're from Texas. Oh my God. We would love to have you on to like just tear into this hunk of news. Because I think that. I think that Ken Pax and getting impeached is in my mind. A deeply significant event in American politics right now that I wish more people were talking about because it's so important that. What goes into that accountability. We've been, I've talked about it in open. We've been talking about it more. We're obviously going to be talking about Donald Trump being indicted. The accountability factor that we're starting to see actual like. We were talking before we started recording Rachel about how like that, that almost trepidacious relief of like Trump's really indicted, right? Like this idea that like this accountability that we've been talking about for five, six years, seven years. We're starting to see it. Like we're starting to see accountability. And it's a big deal. And this is a very good, like if Trump had not been indicted this past week, the attorney general Texas being ousted by his own party would be a major national story. And he still has to go through like he's impeached. So he still has to go through like an action isn't resigned yet. So he if he doesn't. And from what it looks like, he doesn't, I mean, he's like from what I saw. He has no intention of stepping down, even though. I assume he'll chain himself to the steampide. Yeah. And like he's, he's been, you know, he said like this is all made up. And this is just the far left cause whatever crazy nonsense. Yeah. Marjorie Taylor Green said it was a witch hunt. Even though 60 Republicans voted to impeach the dude. Yeah. Guess they found a witch. Let's move on. But I'll just say really quickly that this is also a reminder that like the only person who can Trump is Trump. That's right. You can't you can't do the Trumpi thing and think that you're going to have the same kind of like bullet proof shield that he does. You'll just get shot. I'm so like faster. Right. Like it'll happen sooner. Yeah. So yeah, Paxton is a horrible human being. And I'm sure that there it's it's a little bit like when Brighton's went down to Missouri. It's not like I think the people that took him down were any better. But I didn't take away the joy that I had that someone who's is narcissistic. And cynical as he is is gone. I mean, like the world is going to be a better place when Ken Paxton doesn't have a job anymore for the people of Texas. Well, let's move on to the buyer sell. Okay, buyer sell. This is simple, right? I've tried to try to last few weeks make these about. Are you buying into this thing, right? Lucas Cunes for 2024 Missouri Senate, right? Are you buying it? Are you selling it? Or in my case, because I've already written an op-ed that I basically said nobody joined the primary because we should have a one man show. So I'm holding, right? I can hold my stock was I've already bought my stock. So the reason this comes up two reasons. And then they came in this order. So I'm going to address them in this order. I was scrolling through what's left of Twitter and this article pops up. Just walking through the just walking through the ruins. Yeah, it's like playing fallout for anybody who's played fallout. Hands are not coming out of the park. That's really funny. Yeah. It's a good game. It's a really good game. Anyway, so the headline of this is from freebeakin.com. So we're not exactly going down the legacy media path here. But that's okay. The headline is Missouri Senate hopefuls 50k magic card collection earns him an ethics complaint. And the picture on this thing is it's got two magic cards. One says go to jail. You should. You should. Can you share your screen for the YouTube people? Yeah, I think I can. I think I can. Let's see. Hopefully we won't break everything. Let's see. Let's go for it. Let's see. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, here we go. All right. Can you guys see it now? Yeah. So there's the picture. Remember our magic cards that Nicholas made. Yes. So somebody stole Nicholas's idea. I think he. I think he gets credit for these cards because these are custom made magic cards. Yeah. Yeah. All about Lucas Cunes going to jail for being a cheating face. And then they use this. We didn't make. We didn't make this. No, we didn't make these. Like that. Like we're hilarious. Nicholas made other magic cards and really funny. Yeah. But these are. Yeah. And they've got this picture of him and what is clearly. You know, like Peter. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, the wife beat her under shirt. And he's got the mustache with the five. I mean, I feel like. I feel like they've exaggerated. Yeah. The contrast in the skin. Yeah. Like he never looked quite that. Like I just got out of bed. Let me just take a picture of myself. Right. They do. Yeah. They amp the contrast. They're trying to make a better line. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And like the, you know, I mean, Lucas is a middle-aged guy. So he's got some like wrinkle, some crow's feet and some wrinkles and stuff in his face. Yeah. Here's what's really stupid. It's a complaint from Liberty Alliance, USA. A Missouri based conservative advocacy group. Just definitely. Yeah. I'm going to pop out of the article. Yeah. Sean, go off. So he, he let, he left off his magic, the gathering card collection and a financial disclosure report. Right. They're right. Yeah. And so they're saying. Let me get this quote right. He's showing he has no respect. Oh, shoot. For yeah, our congressional ethics laws. Yeah. And it's pretty rich. Is the word that I came up with. Pretty rich for these guys who again, like the free beacon types. They're the ones who. Wanted to overthrow the government. And when it talks about. Respect for congressional ethics laws. It's like he's running against Josh Holly who is a traitor. You know, like. He has no respect for the Constitution of the United States. And a lot of people think Josh Holly is a coward. I've been seeing that word a lot. Like Coons really. Put a lot of steam behind it. It's just a whole opening ad. Yeah. Yeah. But I have heard definitely. I mean, that's when I read the Amazon reviews of manhood. People call him a coward. Yes. Yeah. So it seems really stupid. It seems extremely petty. You know, on the Roosevelt. We talk about the Roosevelt's all the time. Right. There's that speech where. FDR references. Fala his dog like these idiots who are so afraid of me winning are so desperate. That they're dragging my dog into it. Right. Trying to make my dog into a scandal. And that's what this. That's what they're doing. With this magic card collection. And you think the other guys in Congress don't have like baseball collections are like. Right. You know, stupid collections that are worth more than $5,000. So signed guitar. Air bucket. Air planes. Right. Like they probably have like old collectible like aircraft. Right. And it makes them more relatable. So just to keep you know, like do my points, you know, like. Yeah. So the other reason is to keep using this. Just because it already happened, he can come back to it again and again and again and again. That's true. Yeah. So the other reason it comes up. Missouri prosecutor Wesley Bell. This is the headline from the AP article. Missouri prosecutor Wesley Bell. Vice for GOP Senate. Holly's seat. Wesley Bell is. In St. Louis. And you know. So basically post Ferguson. He's one of the up shoot politicians that came out of that very horrible and unfortunate mess after the mic brown shooting. And he has cut a pretty good, you know, path at least in the St. Louis area. You know, I don't know how well he's known broader like outside of like plugged in Democrats in the state of Missouri. I don't know how well. He's known outside of the St. Louis area, but certainly I think has has garnered a lot of respect the way he's handled himself in that office. Deservedly so. He's a very serious person by all accounts. I've heard a very good attorney running his office. So we have that now in the primary. Obviously a major contrast. Right. We have a local St. Louis Democrat, a black man, a prosecutor. From North, from North County. From North County. Right. There's like the differences between he and Coons. You know, as far as their general characteristics of who they are really couldn't be much more different from that standpoint. So you've got a real contrast between those two people. And then, you know, it's got a little bit of national attention straight up. I've got links to both Bell and Coons' websites in the show notes. If you want to check those out. You know, so that's the buy or sell. I am going to, I'm going to hold what I've already bought. I think that Wesley Bell is a good leader in politician and lawyer. And I don't think statewide. But I don't think it can't happen. I just don't, I think I'm more willing to hold my stock on Lucas at this point than to sell it or or and I know I'm also not buying more. You know what I mean? Like I'm just holding what I've got. I'm good. I'm just saying, you're not raising. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Where are you Rachel? You buy yourself. I don't like this game. Um. It's not a game. Rachel's politics. Right. No. I listen. I have, I have to say I have this. What we're doing is a game. No, we're doing is definitely. No. Yeah. That's what I'm saying. This is true. This makes me this. I almost got it out. This uh. Well, it's certainly like, you know, Adam and I were chatting back and forth about like maybe this one. I was like, you know, maybe this means this maybe no. Wesley Bell. New. He was going to run for the US Senate. Whenever he decided he was going to run for the US Senate. This has been probably right. This has been in his head for a while. And I, uh, I'm sure he has his own reasons for wanting to do it. Um, he is a very e
