Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. This Act may be cited as the ``Juneteenth Museum Act of 2024''. SEC. 2. STUDY ON FEASIBILITY OF ESTABLISHING JUNETEENTH MUSEUM ON GALVESTON ISLAND. (a) In General.--The Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution shall carry out a study that examines the feasibility of establishing a museum for the purposes of the collection, study, research, publication, and establishment of exhibitions and programs relating to the historical significance of June 19, 1865, commonly known as ``Juneteenth Independence Day'', to be located on Galveston Island, Texas. (b) Study Requirements.--The study conducted under subsection (a) shall be carried out in consultation with elected officials of Galveston County and the State of Texas and community leaders from Galveston Island, and shall include an examination of-- (1) the costs associated with the construction and operation of the museum; (2) whether the museum should be established as part of the National Museum
