Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. This Act may be cited as the ``Protecting Union Representation and Elections Act'' or the ``PURE Act''. SEC. 2. SECRET BALLOT FOR CERTAIN ELECTIONS. (a) In General.--Section 401 of the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act of 1959 (29 U.S.C. 481) is amended-- (1) in subsection (a)-- (A) by striking ``either''; and (B) by striking ``or at a convention of delegates chosen by secret ballot''; and (2) in subsection (d), by striking ``or by labor organization officers representative of such members who have been elected by secret ballot''. (b) Effective Date.--The amendments made by this Act shall take effect on the date that is 18 months after the date of enactment of this Act. <all>
